The Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA), with 9,800 primary and 1,600 secondary schools, 3 million learners and 158,000 teachers, is an important pillar of general education in Kenya. Despite national initiatives, most schools are still far from modern digitalized schools and educational organizations.

KPSA and THESA see a critical need for a practical KPSA digital transformation strategy to support the digitalization of schools, focusing on the digital skills and commitment of school leaders and teachers to implement the digital turnaround.

The project is supported by ESTDEV – the Estonian Centre of International Development Cooperation.

The project’s goal:

The project is brought to life to support the implementation of education reforms initiated in Kenya, introduce modern teaching methods, and enhance the digital skills development of the population.

More clearly define priorities and activities in developing digital capabilities within the Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA), to create a digital transformation strategy and action plan for KPSA, and to outline initial project plans for priority development directions. To advance the digital transformation capacity of schools, a curriculum will be developed for school leadership, educational technology coordinators, and lead teachers. Pilot training will be conducted.

The project has three core stages:

  1. Masterclass: Online sessions for Kenyan stakeholders and regulatory bodies will feature presentations on educational technology and change management experiences from Estonia and around the world, along with discussions addressing the specific needs of KPSA schools.
  2. Strategic Roadmap: Mapping of schools’ digital transformation and change management capabilities development priorities. Choice of priority directions. Preparation of the master plan and road map for the digital transformation of KPSA schools. Initial digital capability development projects plan in up to ten critical areas of success.
  3. Hands-On Training: Development and piloting of a digital transformation training program for KPSA school management, educational technology experts and lead teachers.
